I am Gary Marks, your elementary counselor, and I come to St. Columbkille from St. Peter Claver High School where I served as guidance counselor and college advisor for 200 students of economic need. Educationally, I have a Bachelor's degree with teaching licensure in Political Science and History, a Master's degree in Developmental School Counseling with a K-12 endorsement, and an Educational Administrative Specialist degree. I am a native born Nebraskan, married to Jaci, and I have two adult children, Dr. Jenni Nieman of UNMC and Tim, an audio visual technician for Custom Electronics of Omaha. Jenni has two boys, Jacob and Joseph and is married to Reverend Matt Nieman of 1st Presbyterian, Bellevue.
On the administrative side, I have served as Dean of Education for Kaplan University, Superintendent/elementary principal for two public school districts, and guidance for public and private Nebraska schools. I have also instructed all secondary grades in History and Science while serving as Athletic Director, head basketball coach and Secondary Principal.
My goal for the students of St. Columbkille is to be available whenever a student requires assistance, either educationally, socially, or emotionally and to work with the classroom faculty in daily developmental situations that occur in the classroom, on the playground, and at lunch. Please feel free to contact me personally or through the principal's office as my desire is to be of service to everyone with counseling needs. My professional training is developmental in nature while employing Rogerian methods of providing unconditional positive regard for all students while listening and producing a plan of action that is age appropriate for the situation.
I am thankful for the opportunity to serve your students, and I look forward to a very positive year with the faculty and administration of St Columbkille.
Educationally yours,
Gary Marks
